Celebrating People Award Deadline Approaching Friday 11 Sep
At this year’s AGM in October, High Peak CVS introduces a new annual award in honour of its second Chairperson, Chris Woodcock, the Celebrating People Award.
This new award will offer local groups the opportunity to raise their profile and gain recognition for the work they do. Our key assessment criteria will be around acknowledging your achievements and progress. Examples of the types of changes we are looking for maybe around revitalising your group, attracting new members, attracting new funding, developing a new project and or making a significant impact in your local community.
You can apply on behalf of your group, you can be nominated by or nominate another group. A small panel will make the decision. High Peak CVS will present the Award, a commemorative plaque, framed certificate and cheque for £100 for the group, at its Annual General Meeting in October. The Award is open to all groups, however small or large, newly formed or long established and we encourage everyone to apply.
There is a simple application form which groups are asked to complete and return by Friday 11 September to: Gina Spencer, High Peak CVS, Community Space, 1A Bingswood Trading Estate, Whaley Bridge, High Peak

Caring with Confidence
Derbyshire Carers Association is delighted to announce that they have been awarded the contract to deliver the Caring with Confidence programme across Derbyshire. This is a national programme funded by the Department of Health from the ‘New Deal for Carers’ and is for all carers living in England who are over the age of 18 and not in paid caring employment. The programme consists of seven sessions designed to help carers to look after their own health and wellbeing and that of the person they care for, introducing them to positive changes they can make to their lives by exploring with them how to build on their knowledge and expertise and develop new skills.
The first session ‘Finding your Way’ introduces carers to the concept and the other sessions. The other sessions are – Caring and Coping, Caring and Me, Caring and Communicating, Caring and Resources, Caring Day to Day and Caring and Life. Each session looks at a different aspect of the caring role. Carers can choose to do just the one or all of the sessions. The programme is to be delivered over an 18 month period so carers can vary when they attend making it more convenient for them. All the sessions are free and light refreshments are provided.
The sessions currently being planned are in the following areas:
- Ripley – 9 September and late October
- Buxton – 2 October
- Chesterfield – 7 September and late October
- Derby City – mid October
- Glossop – early October
- Ilkeston – October
- Swadlincote – 12 September and late October
There will be sessions in Ashbourne, Matlock and Derby City shortly.
If you or any of your clients would like further information please contact DCIL on 01773 743355 or email cwc@derbyshirecarers.co.uk This is a great opportunity to be able to signpost carers to a service just for them. |

Amalgamation of Charities Leaves Each with Own Constitution
Interesting charity 'merger' arrangements are continuing to emerge. Children's charities Coram and Life Education are amalgamating by Coram taking a 75 per cent stake in Life Education, with Life Education's 38 local groups controlling the remaining 25 per cent. The subsidiary keeps its own charitable status and trustees in control on mission and constitution.

Using Mapping Process to Tackle Complex Political Issues
From the current issue of Nonprofit Quarterly: 'Tactical Mapping: How Nonprofits Can Identify the Levers of Change' looks at "a method of visualizing the relationships and institutions that surround, receive benefit from, and sustain human-rights abuses", although this approach should be equally applicable to effecting change in other areas.
