Recommendations from Review of Vetting and Barring Scheme
Recommendations from the Chair of the Independent Safeguarding
Authority, Sir Roger Singleton, on his review of the new Vetting and
Barring Scheme have been accepted by the Government. The
criteria for 'frequent and intensive contact' tests will change to
cover work with children which takes place once a week or more (from
once a month or more), and if the work takes place on four days in
one month or more or overnight (rather than three times in every 30
days or overnight).
Download the report 'Drawing the Line', and government responses,
via publications.everychildmatters.gov.uk/default.aspx?DCSF-01122-2009
Under the new registration process starting summer 2010, people
who have passed the vetting process will receive a registration
number enabling employers to check online. Unlike existing
Criminal Records Bureau checks, an ISA registration lasts until any
reason surfaces for it to be withdrawn. Sir Roger has said he
is puzzled by claims that the new scheme would put people off
volunteering, although he recognises that the registration of new
volunteers will create extra work for some organisations – see Third
Sector news item at www.thirdsector.co.uk/news/973932/ |

Internships that Work
Personnel professionals body CIPD has published 'Internships that
work', giving guidance on starting or improving an internship scheme
as part of the drive to combat youth unemployment. Written
from a business perspective, it won't help with how this might
impact on/relate to volunteering programmes but otherwise is likely
to be very helpful. www.cipd.co.uk/publicpolicy/_internships-that-work.htm |

ACEVO Commission on Personalisation Interim Report
ACEVO’s recently published interim report on Personalisation.
ACEVO has brought together a commission of experts to look at
the personalisation of public services and to report to ministers in
autumn 2010.
The Commission on Personalisation is looking at the various
reforms underway to personalise services (e.g. through individual
budgets), what the third sector's contribution could be, what the
implications are for the sector, and what can be done to support the
sector to seize the opportunities and address the challenges
associated with personalisation.
The interim report details the bold reforms that are necessary to
"revolutionise the delivery of public services, by devolving power
and responsibility from state to citizen". View
the report and more information about the background to the
work.. |
