High Peak Service to Sport Award Winner
The Community Sports Trust are delighted our board member Hayley Lever won the High Peak ‘Service to Sport’ Award for her work with Chinley Community Association which inspired her to develop the Derbyshire Village Games project.
High Peak Village Games volunteer coach Zakh Poots was awarded the runner-up trophy in the Young Sports Leader/Coach category. High Peak Mayor David Lomax presented their trophies at a packed awards ceremony at Glossop Rugby Club.
Haley will now be short-listed for the Derbyshire Sports Awards in November. 16 year old Zakh Poots has completed more than 100 hours volunteering for the High Peak Village Games Team. The judges said: “At 16 years old Zahk is an excellent role model for participants and other young leaders. He helps coach at football sessions, holiday courses and mixed family sessions and works hard to ensure that every session is fun and safe for all. He has been highlighted as a ‘brilliant leader’ and was also successful in achieving a Derbyshire Young Achiever Award in December 2010.”
Awards ceremony organiser Emma Champion who is Glossop Community Sports Development Officer said: “It was great to see the best of High Peak Sports performers, clubs and coaches being recognised for their achievements at the pinnacle event of the year in the district.”

NCVO Sustainable Funding Conference
24 November 2011: Adapt, Gain, Grow. London
With our recent research estimating that the UK voluntary sector will lose around £911 million in public funding a year by 2015/16, we want to make sure that you have the tools and knowledge to ensure that your organisation is able to grow and adapt in this changing economic environment.
We’ll help you connect with leading experts, peers and our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors, who will help you build strong funding relationships so that your organisation will be financially sustainable long into the future.
Three reasons why you should book your place are:
We’ve carefully researched and hand-picked 34 experts, case studies, thought-leaders and finance and legal professionals across the whole spectrum of income.
We’re a charity, working for the voluntary sector. We’ve made redundancies and we’ve lost funding, but we’ve spent the last 10 years developing a mixed income base to make sure we can keep supporting you. This is our chance to share that learning and discuss solutions that we know work in the real world.
You will learn from 16 specially designed workshops, discussions, debates, interviews or mini-lectures on the hot topics in grants, gifts, contracts, enterprise and social investment.
If you would like to book your place on our conference please contact Emma Clements on 020 7520 2519 or email sfp@ncvo-vol.org.uk. Alternatively you can book online at www.ncvo-vol.org.uk.

You may have seen in the news lately how women who drink within the recommended limits are still putting their health at risk. It said new research shows that less than one small glass of wine a day increases the risk of breast cancer! It’s not only the drink dependant who need be concerned.
For support and further information about alcohol please visit our website www.daas.uk.com. For more information about Alcohol Awareness week please visit www.alcoholconcern.org.uk
