Lottery’s Awards for All
Looking for a grant of £300 - £10,000 for your group or organisation’s activities?
Could your group be eligible for funding from the Lottery’s Awards for All programme?
High Peak CVS is offering you the chance to come and discuss your group’s activities and funding needs with BIG Lottery Fund’s Development Officer, Matthew Rowe.
Awards for All – ‘Drop-In’ Surgery,
Tuesday 17th January, 10am onwards
at High Peak CVS, 1A Bingswood Trading Estate, Whaley Bridge. SK23 7LY
Each ‘Drop-In’ session will last ½ hour and will give you a chance of a 1-1 chat with Matt Rowe (our local Lottery Development Officer) and High Peak CVS’s funding advisor, Esther Jones about the project or activity that you would like funding for, its suitability for Awards for All funding (or signposting to alternative funders) and tips on what to emphasize in your bid.
Appointments need to be booked in advance - If there is enough interest we will run sessions in the afternoon as well as the morning!

FREE Funding Workshop – ‘Reaching Communities’
The BIG Lottery Fund also offers a larger grants programme called ‘Reaching Communities’. This offers grants of £10,001 - £500,000 for revenue projects and up to £50,000 for capital projects to community organizations and groups for projects that help people and communities who are ‘most in need’.
High Peak CVS is joining forces with Derbyshire Dales CVS to offer a FREE workshop on the ‘Reaching Communities’ programme for groups and organizations who are going to apply or are considering applying.
The workshop will be lead by Matthew Rowe, BIG Lottery Development Officer, and will be very much an information-based workshop, focusing on the main points of the programme including how to describe and evidence the need and the outcomes of your proposed project.

Application to this funding programme is via a two-stage process and is highly competitive. If you are thinking of bidding to it, this workshop is highly recommended!

Financial inclusion in Derbyshire
Future needs: 2012 onwards
Day Conferences Friday 20 January and Thursday 26 January 2012
The Financial Inclusion Derbyshire Partnership has been working over the last couple of years to address issues of financial exclusion in the county including: access to affordable credit, banking and savings; debt and income maximisation advice; financial capability/education.
The conferences will partly celebrate what has been achieved to date but will mainly provide an opportunity to identify key financial exclusion needs/ issues in the Derbyshire, for 2012 onwards, and plan future priorities. This will lead to a new financial inclusion strategy.

Passport Training
For volunteers who work with children or young people.
Volunteers must be aged 16 years +
This is a free five session course. The second High Peak course will take place on five consecutive Wednesday evenings, starting February 22nd, 6.30 p.m. – 9.30.p.m in the Adult Community Education Centre in Fairfield, Buxton and involves:
5 X evening training sessions
Safeguarding
Health & Safety
First Aid Introduction
Involving and Consulting Children & Young People
Equal Opportunities
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate and identity badge as an accredited volunteer recognised by Derbyshire Children’s Trust.
We will need to ensure that volunteers are CRB checked at enhanced level and will have to a supply CRB registration number. If you are someone who is considering volunteering, and are not yet CRB checked, the identity badge will not be issued until you have received your CRB and started volunteering

£10 million Local Energy Assessment Fund launched
The Energy Saving Trust and the Department for Energy and Climate Change have launched a new fund which aims to support communities across England and Wales to play an active role in the development of a low carbon society where energy supply is both secure and affordable. The fund will resource work by community groups to understand their potential for improvements in energy efficiency and local deployment of renewable energy, alongside demonstrations of solid wall insulation. Organisations including parish councils, voluntary associations, development trusts and faith groups are all eligible to apply.
The grant fund provided by the programme is intended to help communities to prepare for new opportunities in sustainable energy and climate change arising from the Green Deal, Renewable Heat Incentive and Feed in Tariffs. The grants can be used to fund projects that follow the Energy Hierarchy (reduce energy use, use energy efficiently, generate renewable energy).
Up to 200 communities will receive funding, with an average of £50,000 available per community (maximum grant of £130,000).
There are two applications deadlines:noon on 22nd December 2011 and noon on 20th January 2012. All funding will need to be spent by 31st March 2012.

£5K Jackpot for Businesses with Growing Ambition
Entrepenuers with clever ideas for exporting goods and services have been challenged to bid for prizes including £5,000 worth of top business advice.
The gauntlet was thrown down this week by High Peak Borough Council, which revealed that UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) had called on self-employed people and small and medium enterprises to share their export ideas. The Exporting for Growth Prize is open to businesses with a new product or service they want to export or an idea for such a product or service. It is also open to enterprises that have started exporting in the last 12 months and would now like to take it further.
Prizes include £5,000 worth of mentoring from HSBC Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers, three grants to travel overseas to explore markets, and a full range of services from UKTI.

Volunteer Coordinator Vacancy
South Derbyshire CVS have a vacancy for a Volunteer Coordinator to manage a team of volunteers within CVS and to support the administrative work of the Volunteer Centre. The successful candidate will be motivated, organised, have experience in administration and a good understanding of volunteering and the needs of volunteers.
16 hours per week, NJC Scale 5 point 23 (£20,198 pro rata). Based at South Derbyshire CVS, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Closing date: Friday 6th January 2012

The Home Heat Helpline is a free, not for profit phone helpline set up and funded by Britain's leading energy suppliers - British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, npower, Scottish Power, and SSE - to help customers who are struggling to pay their energy bills and keep warm. Launched by the Energy Retail Association in October 2005, it is staffed by a team of expert advisors based in Glasgow, who are on hand to give quick, clear information on the grants, benefits and payment schemes that callers may be entitled to.
