Futurebuilders Update
The Government-supported investment fund for the voluntary and community sector, Futurebuilders England, is now actively seeking applications from third sector organisations working across all public service areas that are looking to win public sector contracts.
Previously restricted to five areas of service delivery, funding is open for the first time to organisations involved in such areas as sport, recreation and leisure, environmental projects, waste and recycling, legal aid and the arts. There is more money available to invest, and they aim to provide a faster response in future. He will also be holding a live webchat on 15th April at 11.00 am to discuss the issues further. |

News of Future Funding for Volunteering from VE
Volunteering England’s response to Office of the Third Sector pledges Volunteering England is very pleased with this evidence that Government has taken the message to “place volunteering in the DNA of our society” to heart and has listened on so many levels to the views of the sector and the general public.
They welcome its commitment to removing barriers through the establishment of a pilot ‘Access to Volunteering’ fund to increase opportunities for disabled people to volunteer, and through the extension of the ‘Volunteering for All’ and ‘Goldstar’ programmes. They also welcome the £4 million investment in training for volunteers and their managers and look forward to sharing their expertise in the strategic development of the project.
They are delighted that the Office of the Third Sector acknowledges its leadership role and look forward to a more joined up approach to volunteering across Government departments. They are, however, disappointed that they have ignored the Commission’s call for a £5 million matched fund for the strategic development and modernisation of volunteering infrastructure. They have campaigned for sustainable funding for Volunteer Centres and other volunteering development agencies for many years and we would welcome further clarification from Government as to why they are consistently neglecting this key area upon which the success of future volunteering initiatives will depend.
Volunteering England has already started the process of consulting with our members and identifying practical ways in which they can take forward some of the Commission’s recommendations. As they will be holding Government to account on its commitments, so will they take seriously their own leadership role within the volunteering sector and will be working with our members and partner organisations to create an environment in which volunteering can truly thrive. LankellyChase Children’s Summer Playshemes Small Grants
Each year the Trustees of the LankellyChase Foundation set aside funds for summer playschemes for children between the ages of five and 13 years. The Yapp Charitable Trust
The Yapp Charitable Trust makes grants to small registered charities in England and Wales, whose annual expenditure is less than £60,000. Charities must have been fully constituted and operating for at least three years. Grants are for core running costs and salaries and are to provide continuation funding for established work only. The Trust does not offer funding for any new projects or special events, nor for capital expenditure on buildings or equipment. This year they plan to give about £500,000 in about 100 grants.
Grants are for work with elderly people; children and young people aged five to 25; people with disabilities or mental health problems; people trying to overcome life-limiting problems of a social rather than medical origin, such as addiction, relationship difficulties, abuse, a history of offending. Grants are also made to support charities' work in education and learning, (including lifelong learning).
Priority is given to work that is unattractive to the general public or unpopular with other funders, helps improve the lives of marginalised people and makes effective use of volunteers. Grants are for up to three years. Most are for more than one year. Amounts are up to £3,000 a year. Applications are accepted all year with the following further closing dates in 2008: 26th May 2008 (for consideration in July); 30th September 2008 (for consideration in November).
Full information is on the website: www.yappcharitabletrust.org.uk Application forms are downloadable from the website or by post from the Administrator, Margaret Thompson, telephone: 01484 683403. |
