Village Hall Insurance
Three rural community councils have combined forces to offer a range of insurance to village halls across the UK, including cover for special events, loss of revenue and material damage. The Village Halls Plus Group is made up of Suffolk Acre, Community First (Wilts) and Community Lincs, working with Zurich Municipal.

Standards for Volunteer Management
The Management of Volunteer National Occupational Standards are being reviewed by the UK Workforce Hub so that they continue to meet the needs of managers through to 2014. Information is available on the website, with an online questionnaire and consultation events.

Pointers to Meeting Trustee Standards
'Meeting the Standards' is a guide from the Governance Hub to help trustees attain the competences set out in the Trustee and Management Committee National Occupational Standards. It gives starting points for the individual unit aims of the standards, and lists resource documents and web sites which have some relevance. Using the Media to Recruit Volunteers
VolunteerGenie (www.volunteergenie.org.uk) is a new web site to help charities use the media to recruit more volunteers, produced by Voluntary Action Media Unit. There's a wealth of material, much of which is applicable to any charity or campaign promotional activity, but has a volunteering slant.

Lloyds TSB Foundation Easier Application Process
The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has unveiled a new look website (www.lloydstsbfoundations.org.uk) with a clear step-by-step guide to the application process, a range of case studies and reports on current grants, and a new ‘Media Guide’ to generating publicity. |

Community Champions Fund
The Community Champions fund is for volunteers who want to become active and make a difference in their community. It supports the work of local people who can encourage others to get more involved in renewing their neighbourhoods. The fund is designed to increase the skills levels of individuals to enable them to act as inspirational figures, community entrepreneurs, and community mentors/leaders, in order to increase community involvement in regeneration and learning activity.

Charities Need Grant Aid
Ten leading voluntary sector agencies, including DSC, have launched a campaign to promote the importance of grant aid for charities.
They have published a leaflet aimed at local authorities and other statutory grant givers, to support their case. This pamphlet is designed to be used by local community groups, Councillors, grants’ officers and others. Grant aid is an essential part of the local funding mix for community organisations and remains essential for thriving local communities.

Community Assets Programme
The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the Community Assets programme on behalf of the Office of the Third Sector. This is not Lottery funding. Community Assets aims to empower communities by offering grants for refurbishment of local authority buildings in England, to enable their transfer to third sector ownership for the use of the whole community.
Complete and send them your application form by 2:00 pm on 15 November 2007. By 18 January 2008 they will tell you whether your project is proceeding to full assessment. They will tell you by 31 March 2008 whether they have awarded you an in-principle grant.

BBC Children in Need
BBC Children in Need welcomes applications for good quality, carefully planned, projects which show a clear focus on children in order to change their lives for the better. Applications can be from:
self-help groups;
voluntary organisations;
or registered charities.
Applicants should be properly constituted, non-profit organisations. The children they help are aged 18 years and under, and live in the United Kingdom. You should only apply for a grant if it will benefit children who are disadvantaged by: any kind of disability; behavioural or psychological problems; living in poverty or situations of deprivation; illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
Next Closing Date is 30 November 2007.
