Training for Work with Children and Young People
Thursday 27 November 10am–3.30 pm at Buxton Methodist Church
If you work with children and young people in High Peak and Dales you could benefit from
this FREE training opportunity for Voluntary Community and Independent groups.
High Peak CVS will be running this special training day.There will be three workshops:
Funding – how to keep your organisation afloat financially
Just managing – How to run your group effectively
Involving young volunteers – how to attract and keep young volunteers
These 3 workshops will be run simultaneously in the morning and then again in the afternoon. There will also be stalls and information and an opportunity for networking.

Funders Fair PLUS

Come and meet the Funders!
This special event is focussed on funding for voluntary and community groups with the opportunity to come and meet the funders, discuss your funding needs and have the chance to attend workshops on a variety of aspects of funding, such as:
Finance
Fundraising
Sustainable funding
Loans
Tendering and commissioning
Funding for young people’s projects
Major funders like the Lottery, Derbyshire Community Foundation and Charity Bank will be there amongst several others relevant to voluntary and community groups.

Festival Fringe’s 30th Anniversary year, featuring a showcase

Sir Donald Curry CBE to Speak at Annual Farming Service
Sunday 2 November 2.30pm at Bakewell’s Agricultural Business Centre
Sir Donald Curry CBE, Chair of the Sustainable Farming and Food Delivery Group and Chair of the newly formed Countryside and Community Research Institute will be the key speaker at this year’s Annual Farming Service, which aims to bring local farmers and their families together and reinforce the message that the Christian community cares for them and is there to support.
The event is also an opportunity to thank those that have supported the Chaplaincy project, whichsupports over 400 farmers in West Derbyshire, working closely with the rural church leaders and other support agencies including Derbyshire Primary Care Trust, National Farmers’ Union, and Derbyshire Rural Counselling Service.

Derbyshire LINk Volunteer Development Worker Vacancy
£20,096 per annum pro rata - minimum18.5 hours per week for 2 years.
Your role will be to support and train volunteers with Derbyshire LINk,
whose aim is to gain views of public and patients about health and
social care services. LINk volunteers may be involved as steering group
members, in inspection of health and social care providers or speaking
to planners and commissioners to express their views. You will maintain
records of volunteering and training undertaken by LINk members and
with the support of the LINk staff prepare and advertise volunteer
opportunities.
Previous applicants need not apply.
The interview will consist of a formal question and answer session and a 10
minute presentation.
Base to be agreed, in Ripley or Chesterfield with travel around Derbyshire.
Own vehicle required.
Due to the post having involvement with vulnerable adults, candidates will
be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check.
LINks staff will be jointly managed by Amber Valley CVS and North
Derbyshire Voluntary Action, a work space is available at each organisation.

Gift Aid Toolkit on CD
HM Revenue and Customs has published a CD toolkit on using Gift Aid to increase charity income. It includes basic guidance, templates, an interactive claim form and other materials. Request it by phoning HMRC Charities on 08453 020 203 or email charities@hmrc.gov.uk |

Displaying Company Information
The various regulations which set out disclosures that companies (including voluntary organisations/charities with limited status) must make to show their legal identity have been brought together and updated from 1st October in the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008. See the official BERR (Business Department) 'Frequently Asked Questions' summary of what this covers. Disclosures for registered charities will be in addition to this.

Consulting Employees on Health and Safety
By law, employers must consult their employees on health and safety issues at work. Surveying the Power of the Internet for Charities
Time again for the annual benchmarking exercise that is Virtual Promise, a study of the ways in which voluntary organisations are using the internet. Government to Fund New Sector Skills Body
The Government is to fund a new independent Third Sector skills body to the tune of £2.5 million over the next three years, with its board representing sector employers. Jointly financed by Office of the Third Sector and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, the organisation will pull together the work of other sector skills councils to open up learning opportunities for third sector paid and voluntary staff. The existing Skills for Justice will act as an incubator body to get it off the ground. OTS news item. |

Understanding What Makes People Volunteer (Or Not)
The Institute for Volunteering Research, NCVO and Involve are to work together on research into volunteering and civic action. The Big Lottery Fund is giving three year funding to a project 'Pathways through participation: what creates and sustains active citizenship' which seeks to plug the gap in understanding about what makes people volunteer.

Assisting Joint Bidding for Major Public Services
Futurebuilders England is shortly to launch a Consortia Fund to help voluntary organisations bid for large-scale public sector contracts through joint ventures or mergers, according to Third Sector magazine (www.thirdsector.co.uk/News/855444/ registration required). |

Third Round for Parenting Fund
The third round of the Government's Parenting Fund, which gives financial support to voluntary sector projects that help vulnerable families, has £16 million available for projects running from April 2009 to March 2011. Managed by the Family and Parenting Institute, applications to the fund are needed by 12th December.

Changes to Funding Community Sport
Sport England is changing the way it distributes around £45 million of National Lottery funding every year, following public consultation. Details of the application processes and award eligibility for the new programmes, including themed funding rounds, small grants and an innovation fund for community sport, will appear in the new year. Small Awards for Community Benefit

Service Level Agreements and Community Radio
A 'Guide to Service Level Agreements for UK Community Radio Stations' has been produced by Sandra Tang at the University of Sunderland and published by Community Media Association. They say that the guide will also be useful for any organisation thinking about approaching their local authority or other public body for funding, even if not in the community radio sector.
