Browse the Good Governance Code

Following requests, the Code of Good Governance can now be browsed on the Governance Hub web site, without the need for downloading files, making it quicker to explore. Go to the new feature.

What will Volunteers be Like in Five Years?

A new Performance Hub guide looks at how volunteers are changing (who they are, what they do and what they expect) and how this might impact on your organisation.

The main chapters cover six drivers of change: More ‘professional’ volunteering; Ageing population; Time poor society; Weaker ties to geographical communities; ‘Consumer culture’; and Changing ideas about volunteering.  Order or download

Accessing Equality Information after September

From 1st October, the Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR) replaces Disability Rights Commission, Equal Opportunities Commission and Commission for Racial Equality, with the aim to promote fairness for everyone and tackle discrimination in relation to gender, gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation, religion, belief, age and race.

DRC (www.drc.org.uk) says that most of the information on its web site will be available in an easy-to-use archive section on CEHR’s site, but if you want to ensure access to favourite material by downloading it, you need to do so by 28th September. CEHR: www.cehr.org.uk.

Popularity of Volunteering and Giving Revealed in Extensive National Survey

A charitable society where people are more than likely to volunteer or give money to charity is revealed in an extensive survey published by the Cabinet Office.

The research shows that people are willing to ‘help out’ – and nearly 60 per cent have done so by volunteering formally in the past year. At the same time, more money is being given to charity than ever before. This news is encouraging to anyone who believes in the power and value of third sector organisations to change lives and communities for the better.

Managing Substance Misuse at Work

Personnel professionals' body CIPD has a new downloadable guide 'Managing drug and alcohol misuse at work: a guide for people management professionals'. This is quite detailed with useful example policy statements,

What's a Business Plan?

The Big Lottery Fund has a short guide giving an outline of what they would expect to see in a Business Plan, if requested. Not a bad summary, starting with "A business plan puts down on paper what your organisation will do to turn its vision into reality". (Source: Skye and Lochalsh Community Toolkit)
